George Kaiser will
discuss early childhood education as both a moral imperative and a sound
business investment. A self-made
American billionaire, Mr. Kaiser
is principal owner of Kaiser-Francis Oil Company, an independent natural
gas and oil exploration firm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also the
owner or significant shareholder of a number of other companies in the
energy, healthcare, mining, technology, venture capital and commercial
banking businesses, including BOK Financial Corporation, which has subsidiary
banks in ten states. His
family foundation is committed to early intervention in the cycle of poverty,
various public health initiatives and civic enhancement. Mr.
Kaiser helped launch ÒEducareÓ in Oklahoma and has given or raised more than
$50 million in private and public funding for the program during the past
three years. Educare is a "best practices" educational and family
support program for at risk children from birth to five. |

Keynote
Speaker: Robbin Johnson |
||
|
|
|
Robbin
Johnson was instrumental in the development of the early learning
initiative in Minnesota. He will review the economic, environmental, and
ethical reasons why Minnesota businesses care about and invest in early
childhood development. He will describe the process Minnesota went through in
establishing the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation, its five-year work
plan, $30 million fundraising goal, and its emphasis on developing cost
effective strategies for delivering quality early learning experiences to at
risk children. Mr. Johnson is President of the Board of Directors for the
Cargill Foundation, retiring in January 2007 as Senior Vice President for
corporate affairs for Cargill (an international provider of
food, agricultural and risk management products and services with
158,000 employees in 66 countries.)
Mr. Johnson graduated from Yale University, undertook graduate study
as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and attended Yale Law School. |
